Investigating the causes of early mortality in four Eucalyptus species

Ms. Lantoniaina Lycie Rosoarivelo’s research investigates the drivers of early seedling mortality across four Eucalyptus species (E. grandis, E. urophylla, E. cloeziana, and E. cladocalyx). Mortality patterns were assessed at 3 and 5 months of age and analysed in relation to spatial variables such as elevation, slope, soil characteristics, and terrain structure, as well as climatic factors including rainfall and temperature fluctuations.

Her findings show that early mortality is shaped by interacting environmental conditions and species-specific responses, highlighting the importance of matching species to site conditions to improve establishment success and plantation performance.
