Effects of a lucerne cover crop on the performance of...

The overall aim of this study is to examine if a Medicago sativa (lucerne) cover crop can be grown in the presence of eucalypts and the effect that this may have on tree growth. Two varieties are used in this experiment, namely Eucalyptus grandis x camaldulensis (a drought-tolerant variety, GC) and Eucalyptus grandis x urophylla (a sub-tropical variety, GU) and these trees are grown with either non-inoculated or inoculated lucerne to assess the effect on the cover crop on the trees. This research will provide us with valuable insight if lucerne can be used as a cover crop in plantations
