Assessment of soil arthropod functional activity in...

Conducting a soil functioning study at IMPACT. The study will be examining the use of the bait-lamina method as a monitoring tool for soil function in Eucalyptus plantations. The bait-lamina test is recognized as a standard method to evaluate soil functioning and is an inexpensive, simplistic test for determining the feeding activity of significant soil decomposers. The main goal of her work will be to determine how soil biological activity (which is a proxy for soil health and functioning) is affected by stand density and Eucalyptus species, which will build on the passions that Dr. Merensky had for sustainable forestry.
