Global Expertise Meets Local Innovation at the IMPACT Open-Air Lab

We were honoured to host Dr Sam van Holsbeeck from the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, and Prof Ben Spong, together with three of his undergraduate students — Maddy, Jimmy, and JJ — from West Virginia University, USA, at the IMPACT Open-Air Lab.

Dr van Holsbeeck brings extensive expertise in integrated pest, disease, and weed management practices in forestry, while Prof Spong specializes in forest operations. Their visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the innovative research underway at the IMPACT OAL, including the advanced technologies we use for intensive tree monitoring and data collection.
The visit sparked engaging discussions on the latest challenges and opportunities in forestry research. We were thrilled to exchange ideas and insights across disciplines, reinforcing the importance of global collaboration in advancing sustainable forest management.

We are excited about the potential for future partnerships with Dr van Holsbeeck and Prof Spong , we look forward to continued partnership to push the boundaries of forestry science.
